Welcome to the 44th AFG Convention! This year’s theme is Footsteps Back to Serenity. We take many different paths and many different steps to find serenity. My journey before finding Al-Anon was much different from the journey after, though I now know that all outcomes wereaccording to my Higher Power’s plan. I arrived in Al-Anon 26 years ago when I couldn’t find relief from the pain and fear ofmy situation. I was married to an alcoholic and had a one-year old daughter. I felt trapped, isolated and alone. To evenimagine that I could have serenity seemed impossible. My first meeting was a Speaker Meeting, and as I listened, I knewI had walked into a magical program that would change my life. I found a Sponsor and began working the Steps. I cannotfully express the heartfelt thanks I have for my Sponsors, and to those of you in the rooms who share your experience, strength and hope. And finally, thanks to all of you who hold my hand and my heart as we follow in the footsteps of thosethat came before us.As you can imagine, there were so many emotions when we had to cancel the 2020 AFG Convention with just 2 weeks to go,due to Covid-19. We used our social media platform to stay connected with Al-Anon Members and to be of service by creatingdaily Zoom meetings during the first couple of months of the global pandemic. When I agreed to continue on as the 2021Chairman of AFG, I thought “the script is written, everything’s done”! Not exactly. Planning the first AFG Virtual Conventiontook grit, perseverance, and dedication by my amazing committee!Whether you’re a newcomer or a long timer, from around the corner, around the block or around the globe, I’m so glad thatyou are here! You will get to enjoy great speakers, Al-Anon, Spanish Al-Anon and AA Marathon Meetings and entertainmentwith YHA participation. You can pick up something in our Boutique or a memento from Ways and Means. And most of all,I hope you are filled with love, joy and serenity. Finally, I want to thank my unbelievable 2020 and 2021 committees! They have worked tirelessly and selflessly throughoutthe past 2 years. Their dedication to making this the best AFG ever is reflected in this weekend. This has truly been a laborof love and I appreciate each and every one of them!Enjoy and relax!Hoping to see you all in 2022!With hugs and gratitude,SuzieSuzie Myers, Chairman2021 AFG Convention
