All were current and formermembers of the Pequot Lakes School Band. As Ron explained, “The Lakes Area Music Festival has been going on afew years up here. Serious young musicians and singers from places like Julliard and the Eastman School of Music inRoschester, NY, come to our area to practice and play together, and put on a concert series. It’s sort of like a MN versionof the Aspen Music Festival. The musicians are farmed out to local residents for lodging and there is music coming out ofwindows all around the lake. The photo was shot with local high school and college students posed to create an ad and wasused on the cover of the brochure.” Boxsters and Music!3

The PrezSez . . .by Paul IngebrigtsenHello Nordsterners, First Fling is in the booksand it was a highly successful event! Wehad an excellent turnout for our Driver’sTraining event, with 30 new drivers now qualifiedto solo at PCA Driver’s Education events. Manythanks to Ron Johnson, Chief Driving Instructorand the 30 Instructors who volunteered their timeand knowledge, including our friends from theBMW club. There was also an excellent turnoutfor the Driver’s Ed weekend. The weather was asperfect as I can recall, with plenty of sunshine andtemps that were easy on the cars and drivers. Again, many thanks to Steve Meydell, Eventmaster, DaveAnderson, Registrar and general “Git r done” guy,as well as the many other volunteers who pitched into make it possible for the rest of us to have loadsof fast, safe, fun! There’s plenty more in store thismonth, with our upcoming Road America DE event, and the All-Porsche Show. Don’t miss out on RoadAmerica, it is one of the premier tracks in the U.S!Check out the club calendar in this issue for details. Now, I would like to veer off the event track andexit onto an entirely different topic.many “outlanders” in a club of over 700 people. Wehave new members joining, and those who are onlyable to make an event or two in our season. At anyone of our events, there are new faces. At the Region10 president’s meeting, I learned the number onereason people leave the club is that they didn’t feelwelcome. In the movie, the Outlander must prove thathe is worthy of trust through feats of strength, battles, and derring-do. I would like to think that we do notmake it quite that hard for new members to feel theybelong. But just to make sure, I would like to ask thateach of you reach out to someone you don’t know atthe next event you attend, introduce yourself, and askthem about their car and themselves. Please help memake sure that everyone feels welcome and a part ofthe club. I know for a fact that life-long friendshipshave formed in this club. Can we ever have enoughfriends? Lastly, I have found the best way to feel apart of the club is to get involved and volunteer tohelp. That opportunity is open to all of you. Pleasedrop me a note at: President@nordstern.org if youwould like to pitch in.That’s all for now, see you at Road America! For reasons not entirely clear to me,I am watching a sci-fi B movie calledOutlander, where an alien soldiercrashlands on earth during the time of theVikings and they work together to defeatan alien creature that is destroying thevillage. Here we go again, I can’t believe another monthhas come and gone and this column is staring mein the face! Although now at least it truly feelslike summer (today’s temp was 86 . . . darn right hot).Yet a certain other person in this household is watchinghockey, no less, what with the seasons for professionalsports getting longer and longer. Hockey still at almostthe end of May? It just isn’t right - not that followingthe Twins makes much sense either these days!Plus, there will be a couple of non-Nord Stern eventscoming up that should be of interest. This will be the2nd annual Auto Lieben gathering out at Afton Alps, see ad on page 20 on Sunday, July 31. And we justreceived an ad for a European car gathering calledEurowerks on July 17. See that ad for this group onpage 39 - it’s really a very cool ad! But that might bebecause it features an early ORANGE 911 (go seethis in color on the website, me thinks B/W is NOTgoing to show off the design work on this page).I expect there will be some chillier days and eveningsThey have a pretty neat website, too, with severalyet this Spring, still it certainly is helpful to know thethings happening that weekend but the car show isdays are conducive to enjoying our favorite carmarquee. Plus all those outdoor activities so many of us on the 17th. Plenty to read, too, in this issue. JimSouthwell has submitted another fun column, thanks, wait all winter for.Jim. I’ve heard from several members about howThe calendar is pretty full with things to do, and that’smuch they enjoyed last month’s ‘One Lap of FL!’true here at Nord Stern. LOTS of stuff coming up.Although I wanted to also point out the date for Vino in Welcome to a NEW advertiser, Werkstatt, which isa shop in Rochester servicing European autos. Gladthe Valley is set for August 6. Watch for details, this isto hear and see another Rochester-area businessalways a very, very popular event. Hard not to lovewith the combo of driving some of our wonderful two- interested in connecting with the Nord Stern cluband it’s members.lane roads with a winery the destination! So do checkthe calendar each month. So whatever your Porsche interests are, let’s justmake sure we get out there and enjoy those cars.Nord Stern June 2016From theEditorby Christie Boeder‘73 9117
