The donations were critically important this year. Many of the earlier food drives were cancelled due toCOVID, leaving pantry shelves empty. Meanwhile, demand for food services spiked due to disruption in householdincomes. St. Vincent DePaul of Marshfield served 400-500 families per month, according to Outreach DirectorTrisha Hebert. The Soup or Socks Pantry served 25% more households in 2020, and delivered 1,300 emergency foodboxes this spring. “We could not have supported all these families without the food from Winter Wonderland”, statedSoup or Socks Director Cheryl Hartl. “This year’s donations will sustain us through the winter months. “Thank you”does not begin to express our gratitude to all the volunteers who make this happen”.Cash donations are shared with all participating food pantries after final expenses are paid. Rotary distributes 100% ofnet proceeds to food relief in Central and Northern Wisconsin annually. Since the project began in 2006, more than 310,000 has been donated to hunger relief organizations.“We are extremely thankful to all of the individuals who contributed countless volunteer hours so that we could put the show together again this year. It truly wouldnot be possible without them,” shared Nystrom.“There is not a doubt in my mind that hosting this event this year was the bestdecision we could have made. Through the challenges 2020 brought to so many ofus, this was definitely a bright spot and a tradition we are grateful that we were ableto continue.”MARSHFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY /// NEWSLETTERFEBRUARY 2021
