Craig Stepp, Senior PastorWilliam C. Hardin, Associate PastorNewsletter of Fruitland Baptist ChurchPastor’s PerspectiveDear Fruitland Family,Over the past week, I have begun reading throughthe book of I Samuel.I’ve always found itinteresting to read through both the major andminor prophets found in the Old Testament. If I’mgoing to be truthful, there’s really no reason I chosethe book of I Samuel but I am glad that I did.Working through the first three chapters, God’sWord gives a report of Samuel’s dad, Elkanah. Hehad two wives. His first wife was Peninnah and hissecond wife was Hannah.Hannah had troublegetting pregnant, and Peninnah was always pokingfun and trying to get a rise out of Hannah due to herinfertility. As one can imagine, this really grieved Hannah. SoHannah did what many of us have done in ourdesperation. She began to pray with passion andurgency, so much so that the priest Eli thought thatshe was a crazy drunk woman. That was thebeginning of a relationship between Samuel’s familyand Eli.Now let’s take a moment and fast forward intomodern day ministry. As I think about the pastyears and some of the relationships that I have builtwhich have strengthened over the years, I realizethat the beginning of those relationships was muchlike what we see here in these verses. They started ina time of desperation and developed as I was able tominister to their need.As I have learned, relationships can be built in manyways. In 1 Samuel, we see Hannah coming to herpriest in her time of need. God heard Hannah’sprayer and a bond was formed with Eli. That is thetruth in all Christian relationships. The foundationthat made the relationship between Samuel’s familyand Eli special is because it was built around God.Likewise, the foundation that makes our Christianrelationships special is because they are built aroundJesus Christ.Recently, relationships were also built at FruitlandBaptist Church in a very unique way. Who knewthat throwing an axe could bring people together?Allowing all involved to laugh, love, and have a greattime investing in one another? The bottom line of this newsletter is thatrelationships are a vital part of ministry, as many ofyou know. Fruitland, I want to encourage you notonly to value the relationships that you have but alsoto look for opportunities to build new ones.May God Bless You!Written in love,Pastor CraigSeniors LunchWednesday, March 4thAll seniors are invited to join Pastor Craig and theChurch Staff on Wednesday, March 4th at BayBreeze Restaurant at 12:00 PM for lunch and a timeof fellowship together.Mission Emphasis For MarchAfrica Mission Trip

In 1875, a group of peopledecided there needed to be a Baptist church in this area. Green Mountain Baptist Church wasthen established, and Rev. B.M. Taylor served as pastor. Years later, it was decided to move thelocation of the church and it was then re-named Fruitland Baptist Church. Land was exchangedwith Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute, where the church stands today. Later Rev. N.A. Melton andthe State Mission Board gave more land, totaling 2 1/4 acres.“To know Christ and to Make Christ known2

We’re aboutto enter a world of I-Beams and girders, rivets and rebar, bulldozers and backhoes.Building on the love of Jesus.Philippians 1:15During VBS, kids will discover that Jesus’ loveprovides a foundation that will last. When the stormsof life come, they’ll need the One who will be with them to the end of the age. Whenanxiety sets in, they’ll need the assurance that true worth comes from being a child ofGod, not from what other people think about them. When they feel unworthy, they canremember that Jesus loved them enough to die for them. They’ll learn to be wisebuilders who continue in what they’ve learned and firmly believe. And they will discoverthat He who began a good work will be faithful to carry it on to completion. We’re all awork in progress. Life is a hard hat zone. But just wait ‘til you see what God will do!Children In ActionSaddle Up for Cowboy ChurchPut on your cowboy boots! This month, CAs and YOM will head to rural and remoteLemhi County, Idaho. Students will learn how cowboy churches reach people who mightnot feel comfortable attending a traditional church. They will discover how Pastor MikePalmer and Lemhi River Cowboy Church serve their community and lead people toJesus. CA’s will be challenged to support missions by participating in the week of Prayerfor the North American Missions and giving to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.Verse: “Go and learn what this means, ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ I have not cometo get those who think they are right with God to follow me. I have come to get sinners tofollow me.” Matthew 9:13Meet Me in the Middle EastIn April CA’s and YOM will learn about God’s unshakable pursuit of us and how Jesusshowed us His love through His death and Resurrection. Students will meet Don andMary Alan*, who work in the Middle East. They help other countries throughout theMiddle East. Students will learn about the hindrances Muslims face when they convert toChristianity. They will choose a project that will strengthen their own faith and willchallenge other believers to pursue God with unshakable faith, also.Children’s Summer Camp - August 11th - 14th@ Look Up LodgeWe are looking for a male chaperone! We are looking forward to some exciting family events hereat Fruitland including Family Game Night, our Easter Egg-Stravaganza, Bible drill andKids Camp at Missions Extravaganza in Charlotte. Thank you to all the adults andstudents that have bonded with their Valentine pals. I encourage you to continue yourrelationship with each other, find out birthdays and other interests until next Valentines! As parents we have full plates and life comes at us fast and before we know it parentingcan spiral out of control. I was given a book recently that has really helped me as aparent called Boundaries With Kids by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.Parenting is not just about the present, we are preparing our children for the future. Wehelp our children build their character that will hopefully take them through life safely, securely, productively and joyfully. Proverbs 22:6 says Train a child in the way he shouldgo, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Children are not born with boundarieswhich makes parenting so difficult. If you feel that your children could use moreboundaries to help them learn who they are and what they are responsible for Iencourage you to get a copy of this book to read (Christian Book Distributors usuallyhas best price). I have the teen edition to dig into once I finish with the Kids book.In Sunday School we have talked about how God often allows us to have trials in ourlives to draw closer to Him and He uses our past trials to help others who are goingthrough present day trials. We are blessed to be part of such a wonderful church family.I encourage you to keep your eyes open and ask God to show you who you can comealong side and help. We all have burdens, some are more private than others, but whenwe are helping others, ours tend to become smaller and we are taking off some of theweight of the ones we are helping. Continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus! I knowHe is pleased when we are!FamilyAug 2-7VBSAug 11-14Look Up LodgeSummer CampSaturday March 14th6:00 - 8:00Fellowship HallBring your favorite board game and munchies to share!
