4Hosanna Lutheran Church 2019 Annual ReportANNUAL MEETING MINUTESThe 2018 Annual Meeting was called to order at 12:20 pm by Lisa King. We sang a hymn and read aLitany. A quorum of at least 40 members were present.Rachel Gray moved (Sinde Finnegan seconded) that we accept the 2018 Annual meeting minutes. Therewas no discussion or questions. The motion carried unanimously.Pastor’s Report (page 6): Noel Sederstrom moved (Keith Johnson seconded) that we accept Pastor’s 2018Annual report. The motion carried unanimously. One highlight is that membership is increasing! Hosanna ispart of the 17% of congregations in the nation that are growing. Part of the reason is that we uniquelyworship Jesus. Pastor Meiers is looking forward to another great year!Music & Worship (page 8&9): Nancy wanted to point out that many different people participate in worship byleading as instrumentalists, vocalists, or reading. In the Fall there were concerns about small numbers ofparticipants, but they’ve done well with who attended they’ve been able to move on. Also of importance isthat another form of outreach is the church supporting composers that dedicate their lives to creating musicfor worship! Great effort is put in to have each worship be unique and meaningful. Nancy asked that newideas for worship be shared with the worship advocates. Two final announcements were pointing out thatnew banners have been added this year, and the musical is just getting started!Faith Formation (page 10): Darcy thanked those attending. She pointed out the four categories VibrantFaith encouraged Hosanna to use for visioning/evaluation of ministries - discover, discern, design, and do.Members were reminded to consider the work our youth are doing outside of Hosanna. Plus there has beensome experimenting in a new look and support of worship. Another point of importance is that the CreationStation runs itself with all the different people involved. Darcy closed with a thank you to all the volunteerswho support the youth!Council President (page 12): Lisa expressed how much she’s learned and offered thanks to all who supportthe congregation’s work. Please see her written report for more details.Discipleship (page 13): Kathy was not able to attend. Please see her written report for more details.Fellowship (page 18): Sinde gave examples of what the ministry teams accomplished in 2018 and thankedthe ministry team leaders. The Nominating Committee worked hard and gathered great people for thecoming year. Please see her written report for more details.Outreach (pages 19): Dawn and Kelly want to thank the offering and support of new ideas! Most noteworthyis that more deliberate teaming with Rochester congregations will be coming.Support (page 28): Les was not able to attend. Please see his written report.Worship (page 31): Chris expressed his thanks for all the support and made a special note of thanks toChris Johnson for the new sound system.Business & Finance (page 33): Paul stated that 2018 was a good year. Less money was spent thanexpected. Reserves are good and 40,000 should be applied to the mortgage, the 60,000 reserve will stillremain. Paying that amount to the mortgage will shrink the term from 8 to 6 ½ years. Question asked – Isthere a set amount for reserves? Answer – The guide is to make sure there is enough for at least a fewmonths of expenses, and we have that in reserve. Question – What is the plan for the parking lotexpenses? Answer - Leon shared that 120,000 would be needed to take care of everything in the parkinglot at one time. 18,000 has already been spent to patch. Question - Should a capital appeal be held to takecare of everything at one time? Answer – The safety of people in the parking lot is the most importantconcern. Plus the Team does want to protect the investment with whatever is done with the parking lot.Question - Why pay a large chunk towards the mortgage when there’s potential expenses to take care ofthe aging building? Answer - There’s been debate about how to handle the several concerns of equal valueand no conclusion has been reached.

Hosanna Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report5Personnel (page 33): Keith Johnson shared that Pam Lynch’s family plans to move and there will be a needto rely on volunteers to clean until the position is filled. Please share possible applicants with Pastor.Properties (page 34): Please see the report and other topics of concern within these recorded minutes.Memorials and Trust (page 35): Paul talked about the use of funded depreciation and funds for the parkinglot. Upcoming expense of 4,000 is planned. The Endowment Fund has increased, it’s mainly used foroutreach and building improvement. Question – What are the uses for the 69,000 Endowment Fund?Answer provided.Audit (page 36): Keith Johnson thanked the audit team, we were audited! The separation of duties workswell. No unusual activity to be concerned about.Financial Secretary (page 39): Budget up due to salaries. Funds were added to funded depreciation. Utilitycost went up. Spent 16,000 less than was taken in. Income was 5,000 more than planned on. Projectedincome and projected expenses gives a negative budget. Not a concern because of previous experience.Question – How many of the pledges make up the budget? About 90%. Some members don’t pledge yetthey give offerings.General Fund and Income (page 39): Please see the report.New Information:Karl Dirksen moved (Dave Wall seconded) to approve the budget. It was approved unanimously by voicevote.Nomination for new Bishop of the SE MN ELCA. Barb Anderson suggested Lisa Kipp for consideration.Question – What are Lisa’s work experience and qualifications? Barb provided answers from Lisa’scorrespondence. She is ordained, college history was shared, plus Lisa was an intern pastor at Hosanna fortwo years. Question – What is the process if we suggest Lisa as a candidate? Nomination process wasshared. February 10 each conference holds a meeting to take nominated names forward to top three. NineHosanna members can attend and participate in the conference. After three are selected there arecandidate forums. Synod Assembly allows for voting delegates to select the Bishop. It is an Ecclesiasticalballot process. Question – What is Hosanna’s responsibility once we select a candidate? Answer – limitedbecause Hosanna isn’t even named as nominating group. Barb moved (Lisa King seconded) to bring LisaKipp forward as candidate for nomination. It was approved unanimously by voice vote.Review of new Council positions. 6Hosanna Lutheran Church 2019 Annual ReportSenior PastorPastor Bill Meiers2019 was a year of transition of Hosanna and for me as well. My letter of June 6, 2019announcing my retirement as of December 1, 2019 began the process of calling Hosanna’s nextpastor. The Transition Team was soon after organized and has been meeting regularly for manymonths to do the important work of completing the congregational profile which will provideguidance to our congregation’s call committee. They will begin their work in the near future, andour Southeastern Minnesota Synod Office will provide pastor candidates informed by thepriorities determined by the congregational profile. I encourage all members of Hosanna to availyourselves of the opportunity to give your input into this important process. The Transition Teamwill provide several opportunities to meet with them before the congregational profile iscompleted and sent to the synod office. The other group that also began meeting several months ago was the Retirement CelebrationPlanning Team, and indeed they planned. They planned and orchestrated a wonderful openhouse on the afternoon of November 17. Several area Pastors and a number of people fromformer congregations were in attendance, in addition to many Hosanna members. But that wasnot all that the retirement had planned. The celebration continued on December 1 with worshipservice rich with the word, the sacrament and so much music. Lunch and program followed whichwere equally rich with food, celebration and fellowship. Thank you to Barb Schepp, Judy Ruegg,Ginger Minske, Tina and Taylor Sass, Sinde Finnegan and Nancy Wales for providing such awonderful celebration. To all who gave me such meaningful cards and gifts, I give you mydeepest thanks. I was certainly blessed to work with a talented and dedicated staff. My thanks toNancy Wales, Darcy Youngstrom, Jodi Solum, and Lonnie Oeltjen for their faithful service. It hasbeen a privilege to share the ministry of Christ’s church with you. Finally I extend a warm welcome to Pastor Joy Bussert. May God bless and guide her ministrywith you at Hosanna. She is an experienced and capable shepherd who brings wonderful gifts ofleadership and compassion to help provide clarity in this time of transition.May you, the members of Hosanna, continue to share the good news of the Gospel of JesusChrist through your word, music and service.Yours in Christ,Pastor Bill Meiers
