12/1/2020The ultimate goal of the Center for Translational Behavioral Science (CTBScience) is to promote publichealth and health equity with sustainable team science approaches for the development and widespreadimplementation of behavioral and biobehavioral interventions across the translational spectrum. As such,CTBScience has developed this report in effort to identify the areas in which we are working to achieve this goal,as well as identifying the efforts made by center faculty, staff, and affiliates during the 2019 - 2020 reporting year, beginning on July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. While 2020 has introduced a variety of significant societalchallenges, it remains the mission of the center to continue promoting health equity through team science. In thisrespect, the efforts and accomplishments highlighted in this report were supported through a variety of internaland external funding, and generous support of the FSU College of Medicine and Office of the Vice President forResearch.Since the Center’s opening, we have developed and maintained an impressive team of ambitious scientistsfrom multiple disciplines. These faculty members contribute to the Center’s mission through their own distinctresearch program initiatives and through the Center’s three structural cores related to Management, Methods, and Technology. The range of disciplines for our faculty team members include clinical psychology, public health, epidemiology, statistics, and communications. As detailed in the remainder of this report, CTBScience has metand surpassed expected milestones as defined by the Florida Board of Governors, and has made significantcontributions to dissemination, professional development of faculty and staff, student engagement in research, and building an impressive infrastructure that will allow for continued growth and meaningful communityengagement. While we hope this report will highlight the extensive efforts and accomplishments of our entire facultyand administrative team, we would be remiss to not address the current social, political, and public healthenvironments that we find ourselves. Translational science depends on the ability for fluid communication ofscientific innovations and advancements directly to the populations we seek to serve. It remains our primary goalto contribute toward improving health outcomes in our most vulnerable populations, and our growth asindividuals, researchers, and a team as a whole relies on community engagement. To ensure this, CTBScience hasdeveloped targeted working groups, agency consortiums, advisory committees, and stakeholder networks. As Director of CTBScience, it is my duty and privilege to present this report to our collaborators andstakeholders. Throughout the next year, the Center will remain dedicated toward activities to achieve the Center’smission and continue efforts toward pursuing goal achievement related to the measurable outcomes outlined bythe Florida Board of Governor’s strategic plan.Go Team Science!Sylvie Naar, PhDDistinguished Endowed ProfessorDirector, CTBScienceFlorida State University College of MedicineDepartment of Behavioral Sciences and Social MedicineCenter for Translational Behavioral Science2010 Levy Avenue, Suite B0266, Tallahassee, Florida 32310Telephone 850.644.2334 ctbs@fsu.edu http://www.ctbscience.org
