The Office of Curriculum and Instruction (OCI) was founded in 2013 under the Division of Workforce,Career, and Technical Education at the Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB). The office is fundedthrough a partnership with The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), who serves as Mississippi’sfiscal agent for state and federal Career and Technical Education (CTE) Funds. The OCI is tasked withdeveloping statewide CTE curriculum, programming, and professional development designed to meet thelocal and statewide economic demand. NATIONAL CERTIFICATION STANDARDSCompTIACompTIA is a vendor neutral provider of IT certifications. At the time of this revision, CompTIA A (2017edition) comprise CompTIA A 220-#01 and CompTIA A 220-#02. The following overview has beenprepared based directly on information from the CompTIA A certification website at www.CompTIA.org.The certification covers both hardware and software fundamentals that are needed by IT professionals insupport and service technician roles. CompTIA A 220-#01 covers computer technology fundamentals,such as PC installation, configuration, mobile devices, and networking as well as safety procedures andprohibited content. CompTIA A 220-#02 covers installing and configuring PC and mobile operatingsystems, as well as common functions in networking, email and security.In order to receive CompTIA A certification a candidate must pass two exams. The first exam is CompTIAA 220-#01 Certification Exam. The CompTIA A 220-#01 and CompTIA A 220-#02 examinations measuresnecessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional with the equivalent knowledge of at least 12months of hands-on experience in the lab or field. Successful candidates will have the knowledge requiredto assemble components based on customer requirements, install, configure and maintain devices, PCsand software for end users, understand the basics of networking and security/forensics, properly andsafely diagnose, resolve and document common hardware and software issues while applyingtroubleshooting skills.
