Pleroma Press.Term 3After such a busy term we will be glad for a short break. We started to relax slightly after ERO had gone but not forlong. Daffodil Day was a great success, run by Room 5. Then started our practices for Fiafia night. Two assemblieswere held within days of each other. One with two New Zealand Olympic medal holders and then a Duffy assemblywith a famous TV chef. Then in the last week, Fiafia night, a puppet show and a trip to the theatre. We welcome theholidays!Navity of our Lady MassThursday 8th the school had a mass celebrating the nativiy of Our Lady. Again a very reverant Mass and the schoolsang all my favourite hymns. It is so nice to see the children so comfotable in the church. They have a great feeling ofbelonging. It is a part of who they are. Bless them all.

Green AngelsEvery week something else has changed in our garden. The matting and shells have been placed down, the water tankhas been placed, the children painted the garden boxes and then this week we will see that actual planting of theplants. We have to thank the great support behind this project. Bunnings, for the continued supply of materials andmanpower, Countdown, supply of materials and manpower and Westhaven Rotary for materials and never endingmanpower support. The rapport that these people have made with the children is so strong that when they see themcoming into the school they get excited as they know something else is going to happen and they can be a part of ittoo.Stage 3Helping with the shellsStage 4Painting the garden bedsOn Thursday 15th September, Room 1 had the opportunity to paint the panels that will be put onto their gardenbed. Room 4 undertook a survey to find which colour every class wanted to paint their panels. Room 1’s result wasrainbow – which is our favourite as it is so bright and happy – just like our Room 1 family. Each child had several turns at painting our panels and we are excited to see them on our garden bed soon.A huge thank you to Bunnings, Westhaven Rotary and Dulux for sponsoring our school and making this opportunityhappen for our students.Stage 5The Planting

UNITECThe UNITEC students are at the last stage of their presentation to the students and the Board. They have workedreally hard in understanding the ethos of our school and what is really important to us. This can be seen through theplans they have made and the planning behind them. We look forward to seeing their work become reality in the nearfuture.Olympic Role Model AssemblySarah Cowley-Ross was an amazing role model for our children. They were completely engaged for the entire lengthof her presentation and were inspired by her enthusiasm and passion. Her power point was visually interesting and the children were highly excited by what they saw. They also likedseeing the actual length that she can jump, which she indicated with a band. The children were truly amazed by thelength and that they could physically try it out themselves. The children came away with some fantastic messages based on the Olympic values and could recall all five valueswhen asked, being particularly interested in the idea of ‘Fair Play’ and ‘Joy of Effort’. The Olympic values alsoreinforced two of our school values, being respect and excellence. It came through quite strongly from what Sarah said, that enjoying what you do and having fun was of greatimportance. Our students related to how she made goals when she was young and recalled the timetable she made to worktowards her goals each day. She recalled how she found the javelin difficult to begin with but persisted with it andlearned to love it. A good lesson for learning new things that seem hard. Some messages the children have remembered since Sarah’s talk are; to be friendly with your competition, to nevergive up, to have fun, to find your own personal superpower and to fly.Tracey LeeDuffy Role Model AssemblySeptmeber 12th we had another assembly with many guests. Our TV Chef was Mike Van de Elsen. The childrenloved his story of when he realise that reading was incredibly important if you wanted to succed in today’s world. After helping on his parents chicken farm, shovelling chicken poop all the time he realised that reading woulddefinielty be a better option. Our other special guests were our fathers. We celebrated the importance of our fathers in our lives and the childrenread out why they loved their fathers and how special they were. Each received a chocolate and a hug from theirvery special son or daughter.

Room 1For Science Room 1 planted some grass seeds and sunflower seeds. Our experiment with the grass seeds is to seewhether grass grows better when fed water, coke, or milk. We are also relating this to what we should feed ourbodies as well. This was the first step of planting the seeds – we will document the progress in the weeks to come.Hell’s Pizza Reading Challenge WheelThe holidays are coming up and this is a great time for all children to gain more clips on their Pizza Wheels. Theyhave all received their Duffy books so reading can be one of their holiday activities. A good book under the shade ofa tree is a great way to spend some quiet time. Parents, encourage your children to read these holidays. They haveall heard about the importance of reading so all they need now is practice.Preference formsThere are still quite a few preference forms that haven’t been completed. Most letters have gone out to parentswho have to fill in some missing information. Can you please ensure that you are not one of those parents withincomplete forms? Thank you.Lost PropertyLast chance this week. We have a great collection of lost property, some of which has been there for quite a while. If it is not claimed we shall donate all the items to the City Missions. I am sure there will be families in need of goodquality clothing. Please encourage your children to check they have all their belongings. It would be a shame if yourchild’s top or shorts or jacket is walking down the road on someone else’s back.FiafiaWhat a fabulous night. There are so many people to thank. From the glorious children to the teachers, parents, grandparents, Father, parish community, the Russian school, and so much more. All these people made the night sogreat. The children are so talented.
