- WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE MADE BYBEGINNING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHERS?Trying to load 35mm film into the camera's SD card slot. But seriously, folks, thebiggest mistake made by beginning digital photographers is assuming that thislatest stage of photographic technology will correct *ALL* of the hurdles faced bygenerations of film photographers coming before them. Granted, advancementsin sensing technology and lens control simplify much of the labor in setting upbasic shots, but even the most advanced digital camera cannot suggestcomposition, dramatic lighting or mood behind capturing a striking photo.2 - HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHERE AND ON WHAT TOSPEND YOUR MONEY ON A DIGITAL CAMERA?THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND REVIEWS ARE NEARLY COUNTLESS ANDUSUALLY ONLY AGREE ON THE “TOP OF THE LINE” ITEM AS THEIR PICK.THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY!A better way, if you haven't done this already, is to start by making a list of yourneeds in a camera, especially the most elemental need: will you be carrying yournew camera in a bag or a pocket? I have a small pocket camera that has manyunique features, but doesn't have the all the "bells-and-whistles" that my fullsized SLR camera body offers. Determining simple needs like time-exposure,close-up, external flash control and portability can save you hundreds of dollarsand help you avoid a bad case of buyer's remorse.3 - HOW DO I DECIDE IS A PICTURE IS WORTH TAKING?Before digital cameras became affordable for the consumer market, choosingwhat photos to take was a matter of finances and processing time. Everyoneenvied the contributing photographers for glossy magazines that had deepenough pockets to afford taking a hundred exposures to get that one keeper forthe cover. Digital photography has made it economically feasible for the amateurphotographer to feel more relaxed and experiment by taking numerousexposures and sort through them quickly without the long processing time.Should you take the photo? 4 - HOW DO I GET THE WHITE BALANCE RIGHT?For most situations the auto white balance on your camera does a good job, butthere are times when it doesn't work as well. If your camera has preset whitebalance settings, you can work with them to get the result you want. If you stilldon't get the right shot, try to manually set the white balance. Change the camerasettings to manual or custom white balance, then point the camera at somethingwhite or gray -- a white/gray card or t-shirt -- filling the screen completely withthat card or shirt, and pressing the White Balance button on your camera (if youhave one). Make sure the white that you focus on is not in the shadows, and isilluminated by the artificial light of the room. If you can't get the results you want, try using the raw file format available on some advanced cameras. This takes thepictures without any automatic enhancements. The pictures can be adjusted inyour photo program later.Find out more - get the complete resource for digital .com/a.php?a dptnet6

- HOW DO YOU TAKE CLEAR SHOTS FOR INDOORSPORTS?The main key in shooting sports is speed. You MUST have a quick shutter speedin order to freeze the action. You can get try it with a slower shutter speed, butyou will have follow the subject with the camera as you're taking the picture, andthis can lead to very unpredictable results. To get the best results, set the ISO tothe highest setting -- 400-800. That's like using fast film in a 35 MM camera andworks better in low lighting. Action photos are difficult because of the delay in theshutter release and in recording the picture. If your camera has a rapid fire mode, then you'll want to set it to that.Find out more - get the complete resource for digital .com/a.php?a dptnet7

- WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES OFRAW VS. JPEG FORMAT PHOTOGRAPHS?When you take a picture in a jpeg format, the camera does things to it before it'ssaved. The image sensor converts analog to digital, adds any specifications thatwere made, like white balance, sharpening, contrast, image effect, digital zoom, etc. After all of that is done, the image is saved to the memory card.In a lot of cases, that is the best way to go, because the camera is very smartabout interpreting the surroundings and adding the right specifications.A raw file format is the unprocessed data file that is captured by the camera'simage sensor before any specifications are applied. This can be very helpful tohave when the camera doesn’t interpret the light or the images the way you wantit to. If you don't get the results you want with the settings you've made for apicture, you can take a raw picture and not have anything "added" to the image. The picture can then be edited in your photo editor to get the look that you want, rather than having to adjust from the settings made to a jpeg image. In the picture below, the top photo was taken in auto jpeg mode and the bottompicture was taken as a raw format. The top has better lighting but less detail. Thebottom is darker but has greater detail.Find out more - get the complete resource for digital .com/a.php?a dptnet8

- WHAT ARE THE BEST SETTINGS FOR LOWLIGHT/NIGHTTIME CONDITIONS?A setting of ISO 800 works best in low lighting situations but given the lightingsources, could increase the background noise. A tripod or a very steady handhelps when shooting at a slower shutter speed in low light, also. Some helpfulsettings to try are:SubjectShutter SpeedF-StopFireworksFloodlit buildingSubject lit by firelightTypical street scene withnormal illuminationShop windowBrightly lit street scene(maybe with Christmaslights)Neon sign and brightly littheatre districts1 second½ second½ second2.82.82.8½ second2.81/8 second2.81/15 second2.81/30 second2.8Find out more - get the complete resource for digital .com/a.php?a dptnet10

- WHAT IS HYPERFOCAL DISTANCE?Simply put, it's the distance setting that provides the best depth-of-field. Evenmore simply, it is the average distance between the nearest foreground objectand the furthest in a photo. The hyperfocal distance is best implemented when the subject matter extends farinto the distance, and if no particular region requires more sharpness thananother.Find out more - get the complete resource for digital .com/a.php?a dptnet11

- HOW DO YOU TAKE A PHOTO OF A GLASS SIGN ORA FRAMED PICTURE IN GLASS WITH A FLASH AND NOTHAVE THE REFLECTION OF LIGHT FROM THE GLASS?As with redeye reflection and eyeglass glare, the key is to find a way of eitherredirecting the angle of the flash or the angle that the camera captures theimage: the angle of incident equals the angle of reflection. Put simply if your lensand your flash are shooting at the same angle and direction, you'll get themajority of light thrown back in your frame. A polarizing filter on the camera (or insheet form placed over the glass surface) also redirect reflected light, but at thecost of some muted colors. The following picture was taken at a downward angle with ceiling light and aflash.Find out more - get the complete resource for digital .com/a.php?a dptnet12

- HOW DO YOU GET HIGH CONTRAST NATURALLIGHT BLACK AND WHITE PICTURES?Many factors determine the results you'll get in taking black and white photos, with the composition being the most important: black and white photos are moststartling when the elements in the photo differ. Saying this, composing amemorable black and white photo requires that your subject and setting carrywith them significantly different light-reflecting values. If the elements are toosimilar in reflecting light, no amount of ambient or artificial light will make themleap out at the viewer. Many digital cameras offer a black and white photo modeas well as offering simulations of Sepia tone, which make taking high contrastphotos easier but not foolproof. You may also wish to take your picture in color, then convert it to black and whitewith your photo editor, as in the picture below.Find out more - get the complete resource for digital .com/a.php?a dptnet13

- WHAT IS THE TIME LAG FROM THE TIME YOU TAKEA PICTURE UNTIL IT IS RECORDED ON THE MEMORYCARD?This great chart comes from CAMERAS.CO.UK. It shows the amount of time inseconds that it takes each camera to record one shot and five shots. Shutter lagis the delay between pressing the shutter button and the camera recording thepicture. Cameras with a long delay may cause you to miss photo opportunities. This can be a major problem for fast moving subjects such as animals, sportsand children.CameraCanon IXUS 55Canon IXUS 60Canon IXUS 65Canon IXUS 750Canon IXUS 800 ISCanon IXUS 850 ISCanon IXUS 900 TiCanon IXUS i ZoomCanon IXUS i7 ZoomCanon Powershot A410Canon Powershot A430Canon Powershot A530Canon Powershot A540Canon Powershot A620Canon Powershot A630Canon Powershot A640Canon Powershot A700Canon Powershot A710 ISCanon Powershot G7Canon Powershot S2 ISCanon Powershot S3 ISCasio Exilim EX-S600Casio Exilim EX-S770Casio Exilim EX-Z1000Casio Exilim EX-Z500Casio Exilim EX-Z60Casio Exilim EX-Z600Casio Exilim EX-Z70CategoryUltra CompactUltra CompactUltra CompactStylish Digital CamerasStylish Digital CamerasStylish Digital CamerasStylish Digital CamerasUltra CompactUltra CompactEntry Level Digital CamerasEntr
