FIRST READING ISAIAH 6:1-8In the year King Uzziah died,I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple.Seraphim were stationed above. They cried one to the other,“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts! All the earth is filled with his glory!”At the sound of that cry, the frame of the door shookand the house was filled with smoke. Then I said, “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips;yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”Then one of the seraphim flew to me,holding an ember that he had taken with tongs from thealtar. He touched my mouth with it, and said,“See, now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.”Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,“Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?”“Here I am,” I said; “send me!”The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.RESPONSORIAL PSALM 138:1-5, 7-8I will give thanks to you, O LORD, with all my heart, for youhave heard the words of my mouth; in the presence of theangels I will sing your praise; I will worship at your holytemple and give thanks to your name. All the kings of the earth shall give thanks to you, O LORD,when they hear the words of your mouth; and they shallsing of the ways of the LORD: “Great is the glory of theLORD.”Because of your kindness and your truth; for you havemade great above all things your name and your promise. When I called, you answered me; you built up strengthwithin me.Your right hand saves me. The LORD will complete whathe has done for me;your kindness, O LORD, endures forever; forsake not thework of your hands.Text: Psalm 138 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Inc. 2001Tune: Anthony Ruff, OSB 2019 Liturgical Press by Order of Saint Benedict, Collegeville, Minnesota.SECOND READING 1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-11I am reminding you, brothers and sisters, of the gospel Ipreached to you, which you indeed received and in whichyou also stand. Through it you are also being saved, if youhold fast to the word I preached to you, unless you believedin vain. For I handed on to you as of first importance what Ialso received: that Christ died for our sins in accordancewith the Scriptures; that he was buried; that he was raisedon the third day in accordance with the Scriptures; that heappeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. After that, Christappeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallenasleep. After that he appeared to James, then to all theapostles. Last of all, as to one born abnormally, he appearedto me. For I am the least of the apostles, not fit to be calledan apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But bythe grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me hasnot been ineffective. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all ofthem; not I, however, but the grace of God that is with me.Therefore, whether it be I or they, so we preach and so youbelieved. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.GOSPEL ACCLAMATION MATTHEW 4:19Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.6St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church St. Margaret of Scotland Church Ss. Simon and Jude Church

GOSPEL LUKE 5:1-11While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening tothe word of God, he was standing by the Lake ofGennesaret. He saw two boats there alongside the lake;the fishermen had disembarked and were washing theirnets. Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging toSimon, he asked him to put out a short distance from theshore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from theboat. After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon,“Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all nightand have caught nothing, but at your command I willlower the nets.”partners in the other boat to come to help them. Theycame and filled both boats so that the boats were indanger of sinking. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell atthe knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I ama sinful man.” For astonishment at the catch of fish theyhad made seized him and all those with him, and likewiseJames and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partnersof Simon. Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid;from now on you will be catching men.”When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him. When they had done this, they caught a great number offish and their nets were tearing. They signaled to theirThe Gospel of the Lord.Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.PROFESSION OF FAITHI believe in one God,the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all things visible and invisible.I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,born of the Father before all ages.God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvationhe came down from heaven,(bow at the following bold words)and by the Holy Spirit was incarnateof the Virgin Mary, and became man.For our sake he was crucified underPontius Pilate, he suffered death andwas buried, and rose again on the thirdday in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seatedat the right hand of the Father. He will come again in gloryto judge the living and the deadand his kingdom will have no end.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Fatherand the Son, who with the Father andthe Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken throughthe prophets.I believe in one, holy, catholic, andapostolic Church.I confess one Baptism for theforgiveness of sins and I look forwardto the resurrection of the deadand the life of the world to come.Amen.OFFERTORY HYMN FROM SHALLOW WATERS CALL US, LORDTune: KINGSFOLD; English melody,Text: Herman G. ST. RAPHAEL THE ARCHANGELA RINGIVINGERVINGI am reminding you, brothers and sisters, of the gospel I preachedto you, which you indeed received and in which you also stand.-1 Corinthians 15: 1February is a wintry month when we start to look forward to spring, warmth, and new life. This February, as we just celebrated the firstanniversary of our establishment in January, the members of the Parish ofSt. Raphael the Archangel look forward to growing in relationships andactivity. Like the winter that temporarily pauses new growth, the ongoingCOVID-19 pandemic has temporarily paused many of the meetings, groups, and social functions that our community enjoys and anticipates.Just as it is worth the wait through winter to see the first sprouting crocus, green grass emerging from under the snow, and the return of birds tonest, it is worth the wait through the COVID surge to return to vibrantparish life. The importance of the local parish to the life of the universal church cannotbe doubted. The Catechism of the Catholic Church identifies thesignificance of a parish as the place where people gather to celebrate theEucharist; are initiated into the Christian faithful; are taught the message ofthe Gospel; and manifest works of charity (2179). In Christifidelis Laici, PopeSaint John Paul II stated that the local parish is the “most immediate andvisible expression” of the universal Church (26). He further stated thatbecause the parish is the place where a community gathers to celebratethe Eucharist, it is the conduit of communion in the Catholic Church for itsmembers (Christifidelis Laici, 26). According to Sacrosanctum Concilium, the gathering of believers for Sunday Liturgy and “sense of community” inlocal parishes are representative of the communion of the whole Church inthe world (51). At a personal level, belonging to and being active in a parishallows each believer to experience and express their faith more fully.Unfortunately, due in part to secular influences even before the pandemic, many Catholics do not acknowledge the need or see the benefit ofregistering and participating in a parish. Last week, we celebrated thePresentation of the Lord on February 2. That feast recalls the Holy Familyfollowing the laws and traditions of their religion to take baby Jesus to theTemple. Our incarnate Lord went to a house of worship, and His familypracticed their faith. They sacrificed and contributed to the Temple eventhough they were poor. This week, on February 11, we celebrate theMemorial of Our Lady of Lourdes who appeared to St. Bernadette in agrotto where a spring of water sought for miraculous healing laterappeared. A parish is a special place of healing through the sacramentsand prayers of others. It is an institution where Christians support eachother in attempting to live and spread the Gospel. It is important to belong to and support our local parish, not fortransactional reasons (“If I don’t register, they won’t let me be aGodparent,” for example) but for transformative reasons. As Jesus calls Hisfirst Apostles in today’s Gospel to make disciples, He still calls us today, andbeing active in our parish helps us to fulfill this mission.MILITARYPRAYERREMEMBRANCEA1C Noel Blackhall, USAFSSgt David Blackhall, USAFSPC Casey Busch, ArmySSgt Kristiana Coote, USAFLTC Ronald Gaudelli, ArmySgt Kyle Lamb, USMC1LT Matthew Montanaro, ArmySGT Alexander L.
