Turning the control to the OFF position does notremove power to the light circuit on models withinterior light. Do not allow children to climb, stand or hangon the shelves in the freezer. They could damagethe freezer and seriously injure themselves. Do not refreeze frozen foods which havethawed completely. After your freezer is in operation, do not touch thecold surfaces, particularly when hands are dampor wet. Skin may stick to these extremely coldsurfaces. Do not store or use gasoline or other flammablevapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any otherappliance.InstallationInstructions Unplug the freezer before cleaning, making repairsor changing the light bulb.Consumer SupportTroubleshooting TipsNOTE: We strongly recommend that any servicingbe performed by a qualified individual.2 The maximum amount of food your freezer isdesigned to freeze at one time is approximately3 pounds (1.5 kg) per cubic foot of freezer capacity.In normal position, your freezer’s temperaturecontrol will maintain sufficientlylow temperatures in the freezer to freezerecommended quantities of food. Caution should be used when removing the door ofa freezer. Particular caution should be used whenremoving the lid of a Chest freezer, as most Chestfreezer lids are under spring tension. Contact themanufacturer’s representative for a method of saferemoval.

Always grip plug firmly and pull straight outfrom the outlet.Repair or replace immediately all power cords thathave become frayed or otherwise damaged. ge.comTemperature ControlFor safe food storage, allow 4 hours for thefreezer to cool down completely. The freezerwill run continuously for the first severalhours. Foods that are already frozen may beplaced in the freezer after the first few hoursof operation. Unfrozen food should NOT beplaced in the freezer until it has operated for4 hours. Allow several hours after each onestep adjustment for the freezer temperatureto stabilize.When loading the freezer, freeze only3 pounds of fresh food per cubic foot ofspace at a time. Distribute packages evenlythroughout the freezer. It is not necessary toturn the control knob to a colder setting whilefreezing food.Turning the control to OFF stops the coolingprocess but does not shut off power to thefreezer.The electromechanical temperature control ison the outside left on the chest models andinside the freezer on upright models.This electronic control has a temperaturealarm feature. If the inside temperatureexceeds 23 F. An alarm will sound if thefreezer temperature reaches unsafe levels.The alarm operates on household electricity.If the power fails, the alarm will not perform.When the freezer is initially plugged in, thered Hi Temp light will come on and a buzzerwill sound. The indicator light will stay on untilthe freezer temperature reaches 23 F orbelow. To silence the buzzer, push AlarmReset. If the temperature in the freezer goesabove 23 F for any reason, the Hi Temp lightwill come on and the buzzer will sound everyhour until the temperature is below 23 F. Tosilence the buzzer, push Alarm Reset.If an “E” appears on the display, contact yourauthorized service technician for repair. Thefreezer will continue to run until serviced.5Consumer SupportThis electronic temperature control is located onthe front of the freezer door. The temperature isfactory-preset to provide satisfactory foodstorage temperatures. To adjust the temperaturesetting, press Colder to decrease temperaturesand Warmer to increase temperatures. Allowseveral hours for the temperature to stabilizebetween adjustments.To turn the freezer off, press Warmer until thedisplay reads “0.” To turn the freezer on, pressColder until the display shows “4” or the desiredsetting.To lock the controls, press Alarm Reset for3 seconds. The display will read “L.” To unlockthe controls, press Alarm Reset for 3 seconds.The display will read “U” and then displaythe current temperature.Troubleshooting TipsElectronic Temperature Control (some Upright Frost-Free models)InstallationInstructionsElectromechanical Temperature Control (Chest and some Upright models)The electromechanical temperature controlis preset to give satisfactory food storagetemperatures. It is adjustable to provide arange of temperatures. Allow several hoursfor the temperature to stabilize betweenadjustments.Operating InstructionsStarting the Freezer1 Clean the inside of the freezer with a mild solution of baking soda and water (see Care and Cleaning).2 Connect cord to power outlet.3 On models with a Temperature Monitor or High-Temp Alarm Switch, set the switch to the OFF position.4 Make sure the temperature control is set at 4.5 Allow freezer to operate for at least four hours before placing food inside.6 On models with a Temperature Monitor or High-Temp Alarm Switch, set the switch to the ON position.Safety InstructionsAbout the operation of your freezer.

Convertible Freezer/Refrigerator (some Upright Frost-Free models)The convertible model can operate as either arefrigerator or a freezer. The selection is madeusing the switch at the back of the unitmarked F and R. With the switch in the Fposition, the freezer controls below this switchand to the left become active. With the switchin the R position, the refrigerator controlsbelow this switch and to the right becomeactive. Placing the switch in the middleposition will turn off the unit completely andwill disable all cooling functions.The temperature on this model is preset. Toadjust the temperature, push the UP buttonfor warmer and the DOWN button for coolertemperatures. Allow several hours for thetemperature to stabilize betweenadjustments.When in the refrigerator mode, the FreezeControl Feature maintains proper interiorrefrigerator temperature even if placed in anarea where the temperature is 10 F (-12 C).High-Temp Alarm Switch (on some models)An alarm will sound if the freezertemperature reaches unsafe levels. Thealarm operates on household electricity. Ifthe power fails, the alarm will not perform.An ON/OFF switch allows the temperaturealarm to be deactivated if desired. The freezeris shipped with the switch in the OFF position.After the freezer has run long enough tolower the temperature, you may set theswitch to the ON position.Located on back of lid.CAUTION: Adding more than 3 pounds(1.5 kg) of warm food per cubic foot offreezer capacity can trigger the alarm.To activate the alarm, set the switch to theON position.To deactivate the alarm, set the switch tothe OFF position.IndicatorLightsTroubleshooting TipsInstallationInstructionsOperating InstructionsSafety InstructionsAbout the operation of your freezer.On/OffSwitchElectronic Temperature Alarm (some Electronic Chest models)This feature is designed to provide a warningif the inside temperature reaches an unsafelevel. The Temp Alarm feature operates onhousehold electricity. It will not function ifhousehold electricity is interrupted.Consumer SupportWhen the freezer is initially plugged in, thered Temp Alarm indicator light blinks. Theindicator light will continue to blink until thefreezer has reached a safe freezingtemperature. If a malfunction causes anunsafe temperature inside the freezer, the6red light will blink and the buzzer will sound.To silence the buzzer, press the ALARM OFFbutton. The indicator light will continue toblink until a safe freezing temperature isagain reached. If the problem is not solvedwithin twelve (12) hours, the buzzer will turnon again. If the ALARM OFF button is notpressed, the buzzer will turn itself offautomatically after 48 hours, but the redTemp Alarm light will continue to blink.

Power-On Light (on some models)The Power-On Light indicates that the freezeris properly connected to the electrical power.The light glows even when the temperaturecontrol is turned off.Key-Ejecting Lock (on some models)Keep the key out of reach of children andaway from the freezer.Operating InstructionsThe key for the spring-loaded lock isautomatically ejected–key will not remain inlock in either the open or closed position.Freezer Shelves (on some models)The spacers (on some models) are used tosecure the shelves during shipping. Removeand discard the spacers.Small objects are a choke hazard tochildren.Tilt-Out Shelf (some Upright models)This shelf is located inside on the freezer doorand provides additional storage space. Toaccess an item, tilt the top of the “basket”shelf down.InstallationInstructionsSlide-Out Basket (some Upright models)A slide-out basket provides separate storagespace for items that are difficult to store onshelves. It is located at the bottom of thefreezer. To remove this basket, pull out andlift up.Troubleshooting TipsInterior LightUpright ModelsThe interior light comes on when the freezerdoor is opened. To replace the bulb, set thetemperature control to OFF and unplugthe electrical cord. Replace the bulb byunscrewing it from the fixture. Replacewith the same size and wattage.Adjustable Shelves (Upright models)Placement HolesSome models will have glass shelves andsome models will have wire shelves.Glass ShelfConsumer SupportThe adjustable shelves can be moved todifferent levels within the freezer.
