FROM FATHER TERRYJ M J“This is my commandment: love one another as I haveloved you.” (Jn 15:12) As we seek to see the EasterChrist with ever more clarity, he reminds us of a centralcommandment to our faith, to love one another. Love isreally at the heart of the matter. To be a Christian is tolove. Such a commandment is at the core of our identitysince, as we hear in the second reading, “God islove.” (1 Jn 4:8) As we continue our Easter journey, how are we loving? This is a wonderful question tomeditate upon. I invite each of you to take the questionto prayer. Furthermore, I love the connection betweenlove and joy. Jesus tells us that the result of our lovingwill be his joy. (11) This is the deep inner joy thatcomes from following Jesus, in contrast to the passingjoys of this world. Wow, the more we love like Jesus, broken body and blood poured out, the more joy wewill have. In the end, may we show the world the loveand joy of Jesus. The world awaits. As we hear about love, we fittingly celebrate Mother’sDay today. I wish all moms a Happy Mother’s Day! Weare so blessed that our moms have shared so much lovewith us over the years. Where would our world bewithout them? Moms, please continue your beautifulvocation of motherhood. We need you! I remind you toalways look to your heavenly Mother for her inspirationand intercession. A special Mother’s Day blessing willbe conferred upon all moms at today’s Masses.Masses at this time, none are of obligation. However, allare welcome to join us either in-person or vialivestream. The schedule is in the bulletin. HappyAscension! We congratulate all of our second graders who receivedtheir First Holy Communion last Sunday! It was such abeautiful ceremony! The kids were so inspiring. It waswonderful to see so many in church. We thank all thosewho got them ready for their big day, especially theirparents. All are invited to see some photos in thebulletin. Please also note that our First Communicantswill be crowning Mary at all the Masses this weekend. This week we said farewell to Krista Sudyk, our FamilyFaith Formation Coordinator (K-5). Krista began withus in the summer of 2019. During her time here, shealso assisted with Edge (6-8) and High School YouthMinistry. Over the course of this last year, Krista did awonderful job in leading the Family Program. She has abeautiful spirit and has touched many of our youth andparents. Krista is embarking on a master’s degree inPastoral Studies and Counseling at Loyola University inNew Orleans, LA. We know that she will make awonderful counselor and help so many in dealing withtheir challenges. Please keep Krista in your prayers.Thank you Krista! As we rejoice this Mother’s Day, let us all remember toturn to our Mom in heaven for her aid. In fact, the entiremonth of May is dedicated to Our Lady. This is aperfect time to say the rosary, especially as a family. We will certainly come closer to Jesus by saying therosary. Mary’s mission is to point her Son out to us. Weare having a weekly rosary at St. Angela for May. Theschedule is in the bulletin. If you are looking for goodMarian books, I invite you to read True Devotion toMary by St. Louis De Montfort and The Glories ofMary by St. Alphonsus Liguori. As things have begun to open up, we think that this is agood time to restore our Thursday evening Mass at St.Angela. Prior to Covid, many found a weekday eveningMass very beneficial, along with Reconciliation prior toMass. Since Covid, we have been doing drive upReconciliation on Thursday evenings. The new schedulewill be indoor Reconciliation from 5:50 – 6:20 p.m. andMass at 6:30 p.m. This new schedule will take effect onThursday, May 27, 2021. The Mass will be in-persononly. I hope you can make Thursday evenings part ofyour spiritual journey. The Eucharist is truly at the heartof who we are as Catholics. This Thursday May 13, we celebrate the Ascension ofthe Lord. 40 days after the Resurrection, Jesus bodilyascends into heaven. He is now seated at the right handof the Father making constant intercession for us. Maythe lifting up of Jesus remind us to lift up our minds andhearts to something greater. That is, may we live byheavenly values and not those of earth. We never wantto settle for mediocrity, especially in living ourChristian calling. The Ascended Christ does not needlukewarm followers but those who are on fire with hislove and grace. He is waiting for our “yes” to besomething more and he will respond in kind. As with allSpeaking of Mass, we are in need of Mass intentions. The normally scheduled Masses are taken withintentions. However, the priests of our clergy team oftensay private Mass or concelebrate. The Mass is thehighest form of prayer we have. Mass intentions aregiven to the priest and he lifts up your loved one at theEucharistic table. Intentions can be said for either theliving or the deceased. A 10 Mass stipend is offered tothe parish which goes directly to the priest to helpsupport his personal needs. Please see the order form inthe bulletin.
