President’sThoughtsby Erik GraybealIllinois PHCC PresidentHello from Central Illinois.Where did the summer go? September is hereand it will be gone before you know it. Fall is myfavorite time of the year. Cooler temperatures andfootball!Well, another month has passed with no statebudget approved. I have been told that this couldgo on for a few more months, but hopefully not. AsI said last month, we will not only have increasedexpenses remobilizing, but also checking that all ofthe work previously done is not damaged and stillin the condition it was left in. I know we have someunderground rough-ins with no concrete pouredover it and wall rough-ins left with minimal weatherprotection of a roof and walls. We will definitely bechecking & retesting all of our piping.I would like to re-visit an article in the Augustissue of the Illinois Master Plumber. If you didn’tget a chance to read the article by Mark Breslin lastmonth, please do so. If you don’t have that issuehandy, you can read it online at www.ilphcc.comunder the Illinois Master Plumber tab. I have not hadthe opportunity to see Mark speak, but I am fortunateenough to be invited to sit in on a lecture from himin October. This article on leadership lessons issomething every business owner, superintendant, foreman and even the workers out in the field shouldread. We always need to be conscientious of howwe are leading our employees. If we are not goodleaders, how can we expect them to be the goodemployees we expect them to be? It all starts at4Illinois Master Plumber, September 2015the top, and like the article states, there are a lot ofpains along the way.On August 22nd a meeting of the Illinois PHCCBoard of Directors was held in O’Fallon, Illinois. The attendance was low and it was discussedabout possibly cancelling the August meeting inthe future. I’m guessing with it being the end ofsummer and school starting back up, everyonejust has busy schedules. The next board meetingis November 14th in Normal. Please make everyeffort to attend. We can really use everyone’s ideasand opinions on the Plumbing and HVAC industryissues that we encounter everyday.I would like to give one final reminder forConnect 2015 in Hollywood, Florida on September30-October 2. I hope to see you there. Please stopme and introduce yourself.I hope you have a profitable month andremember to tell your employees they are doing agood job!Have a great ending to your summer.Untilnext month ErikGraybeal
