Diane Revelas ‘17AAS Culinary ArtsCulinary Arts Student of the Year 2017“Everyone was so flexibleand understanding that I wasraising my family while gettingmy degree”Diane Revelas, a May 2017 graduate of NCCC Culinary Arts program— says she can’t wait to starther “2nd act!”After having earned an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree and a successful career in banking –she took a “few” years off to raise her family. Thirteen years later, Revelas decided to take couple ofculinary classes at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute (NFCI). She immediately loved the programand the instructors. A non-traditional student, Revelas worked through the challenges of returningto school while juggling family responsibilities.“I didn’t realize the level of commitment that would be required to complete my degree,” Revelas said.“Quite honestly there were times I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep going. More than a few timesI found myself asking if it was worth the effort to finish. “Now, looking back” Revelas said, “I am sohappy I completed my degree it was such a great experience.” The thing that kept me going andmotivated was the level of excellence and professionalism of all my instructors.”Revelas was the recipient of the Culinary Arts Student of the Year award for 2017 - the top graduatehonor for the Culinary Arts program at NFCI. At the ceremony, one of her instructors, Chef ScottSteiner, CCE, AAC presented the award and commented “Diane is a role model to her classmates aswell as to her family.”“The wealth of knowledge and expertise of the instructors at NFCI is incredible.I tried to soak upevery bit of information they shared ” Revelas said. “I have especially enjoyed watching them cookand then having the opportunity to work alongside them at special events at NFCI. It has inspired meto pursue my dream of opening my own catering business.”4
