FreeSpace DS 40Fflush-mount loudspeakerArchitects’ and Engineers’SpecificationsSafety and RegulatoryComplianceThe loudspeaker shall be a 40 watt, ported loudspeaker systemutilizing one 4.5” (114 mm) full-range HVC (Helical Voice Coil)driver. The loudspeaker shall be designed for installation inceilings up to 26 ft (8 m) high. An optional pendant-mountaccessory allows the loudspeaker to be hung from openceilings.The FreeSpace DS 40F loudspeaker and FreeSpace DS40Floudspeaker – 8 Ohm have passed extensive testing and complywith the following specifications and uses:The loudspeaker shall have a nominal rated impedance of 8ohms and shall be wired in parallel with a line voltage matching(stepdown) transformer with a level selector appropriatefor various output taps. The loudspeaker input connectionswill allow for direct connection to 70 volt, 100 volt or lowimpedance amplifiers. An 8 ohm variant of the loudspeakershall be available without a transformer for low-impedanceapplications only.The loudspeaker shall have a protection circuit to protect theproduct from occasionally being overdriven. Each loudspeakershall have a bandwidth of 80 Hz – 17 kHz and a maximumcontinuous acoustic output of 103 dB SPL referenced to a fullbandwidth pink noise input at 1 meter at the loudspeaker’s ratedpower. The input connection shall consist of a three-terminalbarrier strip. The input connection of the 8 ohm variant of theloudspeaker shall consist of a two-terminal barrier strip.Listed to ANSI/UL 1480-2005Fire Protective Signaling Use – UL Category UUMW, FileNumber S 3241. Exposed cosmetic surfaces of the loudspeaker shall bepaintable, and the acoustically transparent grille componentshall be formed of powder-coated steel.The loudspeaker shall be the Bose FreeSpace DS 40Floudspeaker.UL-2043, Fire Test and Visible Smoke Release for DiscreteProducts and their Accessories Installed in Air Handling Spaces.NFPA 70, National Electric Code, 2008, Article 300-22 (c).NFPA 90-A, 2008, Installation of Air Conditioning andVentilation Systems, Paragraph 4.3.11.2.6.5.The DS 40F loudspeaker and DS 40F loudspeaker – 8 Ohmhave been designed to the requirements defined in thefollowing European regulatory specification for combinationsystems when installed with an accessory ceramic terminal andthermal fuse:British Standard Code of Practice BS 5839, Part 8.Tested to IEC 60268-5.WARNING: Do not use hydrocarbon-based solvents,lubricants or cleaning agents of any type on or aroundBose speakers, and associated mounting hardware,during installation. The use of such hydrocarbon-basedlubricants, solvents or cleaning agents on or around themounting anchors and screws can lead to degradationof the plastic material, possibly resulting in crackingand premature failure of the product.
